The emphasis of mainstreaming the integration of individuals with disabilities and recognizing them during societal development is keen to create a sustainable environment around the world according to the United Nations Conventions on Human Rights and Persons of Disabilities. The UN’s article is a declaration for the implementation to remove obstacles and barriers for all individuals which includes persons with disabilities during stages of development and advancements.  

Assistive technology are items that provide assistance to an individual with an impairment, some examples include hearing aids, wheelchairs, prescription glasses, etc. According to the World Health Organization [WHO], it is estimated that nearly 2.5 billion people use or have used some sort of assistive technology device and that number is expected to grow to 3.5 billion by the year 2050. An example of a new and upcoming assistive technology device is the Google self-driving vehicle that serves as transportation for anyone, including individuals with disabilities in order to have a form of independent travel. 

At Wilson Adaptive Technologies, we are all about making the world a more hygienic place for everyone regardless of disabilities. We aim to create innovative, inexpensive, and user-friendly showers that cater to the needs of any possible user. 

What We’re Working On

We currently have the W.A.T. 1 shower, which is the basic walk-in portable shower we offer. We are currently in the process of developing the W.A.T. 2 shower which takes all of our user feedback and applies as much as we can in order to create one of the most innovative walk-in showers that knock our competition out of the park. The W.A.T. 2 shower will have loads of features ranging from a shorter catch basin, a moveable water pump system, grab bars, and voice controls. Many of our competitors offer walk-in showers with seats and grab bars which can range anywhere from $1000 to $4000 or more. Most of our competitors’ showers are also not portable.

Our Message

At W.A.T., we believe hygiene is a right, not a privilege. Our goal is to create portable walk-in showers while aiming to meet our user’s every possible need and more. The only way this is possible is through the innovation of assistive technology. 

Assistive technology in simple terms is technology specifically designed with the intent to aid individuals with disabilities to lead a fulfilling life as independently as possible. With that said, it is important for us at W.A.T. to emphasize the valuable impact assistive technology holds. On a global scale, assistive technology is not as widespread, the world is not currently to the standards to cater to everyone, including those with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities deserve to live an independent, fulfilling life and at W.A.T., we are taking that step to offer independence and accessibility to any person that needs it when it comes to hygiene. 

We hope our showers open doors for innovation within the world of assistive technology and make every-day life more accessible and affordable.
